2019 Fermented Beverages Tasting Competition!
(21 and up only)
Get ready to taste some magic! The mead tasting competition has taken place since 2000 at Blue Ridge Beltane. Last year, we shared tips and techniques for creating your own mead and ales to help attendees who wanted to enter the competition this year.
This year’s mead workshop is Sharing the Cup: A Mead Making Tutorial. Share the knowledge and share the transformation! This year we will be getting back to the basics with a tutorial that will help you get inspired to make your own mead and discover the transformative magic of fermentation. Come learn tips and techniques from Sylvia Sapp for creating your own mead and ales at the Bel Fire. After the workshop, attendees will taste the fabulous mead of our community through our annual Fermented Beverage Competition hosted by none other than Gretchen Burgess. Please bring TWO CUPS, one for you and one for a friend.
We will award prizes for Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice, but we all know the real prize is bragging rights.
If you are interested in submitting a mead or ale for the tasting, please bring your labeled entry to be passed around during the tasting.
Gretchen is that loud lady with the glasses. She makes mead and won’t shut up about it, so we let her run the mead contest. It’s for the best, really.
